Senior driving course in Arlington, TX.

Our senior driving course is a 90-minute private lesson in our car for $120, for drivers 65 and older. It is a lesson, not a test: a patient instructor, a dual-control car, the roads you actually drive, and a pace you set. Book online, or call and we will find a time that suits you.

One option, done well

Driving lessons for seniors, one on one.

We teach senior drivers in the car only. There is no classroom course at the moment. A senior lesson is an in-car assessment by a licensed instructor, not a medical evaluation.

A lesson can help if you are

  • Coming back to driving after surgery, an illness or months off the road
  • Taking over the driving from a spouse or partner
  • Looking for an honest second opinion before renewing at 79
  • Preparing for a driving test that DPS has asked you to take

Start with one lesson. Whether a second one would help is entirely your call after you hear the feedback.

In the car

What a senior driving evaluation with us covers.

A senior driving evaluation here is a 90-minute drive with a licensed instructor in our dual-control car, on roads you choose: your route to church, the grocery store, or I-20 if you still use it. Your first lesson starts somewhere quiet, then moves to busier streets as you are ready.

At the end, the instructor tells you kindly and plainly what went well and what to work on. What you do with that is up to you.

This is not a medical or occupational therapy evaluation. If a doctor has raised a concern, ask about a certified driver rehabilitation specialist.

  • Observation: mirror use, head checks and blind spots
  • Left turns: judging gaps in oncoming traffic
  • Speed and lane position on busy roads like Cooper St
  • Intersections: signals, stop lines and right of way
  • Braking and pedal control, including seat and mirror setup
  • Parking and backing in tight lots

If DPS asks for one

The senior driving test in Texas.

Texas does not require a senior driving test at a set age. From 79 you renew in person, and DPS gives a vision test. A driving test comes up only if the DPS examiner or a medical report raises a concern.

If you have been asked to take one, a practice drive with us first shows you the format: on-street driving, backing and parallel parking, scored the same way DPS scores every Texas driver.

Reviews from students of all ages, quoted as written on Google.

★★★★★
“in my case I was very nervous before going, then little by little my nerves went away because they make you feel quite comfortable and confident, I recommend them without a doubt.”
Omar B., Google review, 2025
★★★★★
“He doesn’t insist on extra classes and recommended only 2-3 classes were good enough. By then, I was confident enough and cleared my test in the first try.”

Questions, answered

Senior driving questions.

Still have a question?(469) 550-1743Call us now
Who is the senior driving course for?
Drivers 65 and older who want to refresh their skills, get comfortable again after time away from driving, or prepare for a license renewal.
Do I need my own car for driving lessons for seniors?
No. The 90-minute lesson uses our dual-control car, so the instructor can brake if needed.
Does Texas require seniors to take a driving test?
Not automatically. From age 79 you renew in person and take a vision test. DPS can ask for a driving test if the examiner or a medical report raises a concern.
Is your senior driving evaluation a medical evaluation?
No. It is an in-car assessment by a licensed driving instructor. For medical or rehabilitation questions, ask your doctor about a certified driver rehabilitation specialist.
Do you offer a classroom course for seniors?
Not at the moment. Senior training is in the car only, as a 90-minute private lesson for $120. The road test, if DPS asks for one, is booked separately at our academy.
How do I book?
Book online any time, or call (469) 550-1743, seven days a week, 10 AM to 5 PM. All lessons are by appointment.
